I seemed to recall Martin Short taking most of his SCTV material and
characters to SNL. His work was more 'over-the-top' than anyone else's,
and I think that is why they played well in the format of SNL.

I always wondered why "The Kids in the Hall" kids that did stuff on SNL,
didn't take their most popular characters with them (e.g. "the chicken
lady", etc). Maybe they just were not the right for the format.

Actually, Mark McKinney did do "The Chicken Lady Show" once on SNL, with
co-host "Mickey The Dyke" (Cheri Oteri). It did not go over very well.
He was the only "Kid" to ever be an actual cast member on SNL, though
Bruce McCulloch wrote for the show in 1985-86 (and appeared onscreen a
few times) and made three short films for the 1994-95 season ("Stalker",
"Snowbird", and something about Eraserhead).

I don't think putting the Chicken Lady into a "TV show" format sketch
helped.
