Talking about the John Candy tribute brought up the famous Crane Shot
sketch. I remember how much trouble Johnny got into over the crane shot
ending "Polynesiantown". But now that I think of it, wasn't there even a
WORSE moment for him? Didn't he end one of his movies with a *helicopter*
shot? I just remember Guy Caballero speaking over the shot as he grouses
about another one of those damned expensive crane shots, then his disbelief
when the camera keeps going up and he realizes LaRue has blown a wad on a
helicopter! What was that sketch? I can't remember, I just seem to recall
the last shot being outdoors in a sort of grassy field.

It was the Larue Street Beef sketch from Cycle 1 of Season 4. Larue got in
hot water for the expensive crane shot, he almost got fired from SCTV but
got the Street Beef gig as his last chance. Larue was only given 1 camera
and 1 microphone, but he threatened William Morris into digging up something
fantastic for him. A helicopter shot, shown at the credit roll of Street
Beef!

I remember Guy Caballero was taking ideas for new pilots. Remember the
black guy with the movie "Starheads" he was peddling? When J La R
finally barged into Guy's office, he was showing some guy named
Achilles (in traditional Greek garb) the ending of Polynesiantown. He
was saying, "You see that? That's called a 'crane shot'. He rented an
expensive crane for that shot, and it wasn't necessary, not necessary
at all ..." That's when Guy told Johnny he was cutting his expenses,
and gave the "one microphone, one camera" ultimatum.

Later in the skit, he catches Howard Morris (?) after a short chase
and proclaims, "When you said that crane shot was gonna cost '10 big
ones', I thought you meant TEN BUCKS!!!" That's when he demands
something bigger from Morris.

I never saw the Street Beef episode with the helicopter, though. Guess
that was the payoff.
